Fuel Farm Enhancements - Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, GA
Pond provided complete design and construction management services on the expansion of the ATLECON Fuel Facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The expansion was necessary to satisfy the anticipated increase in fuel demand from the construction of the new International Concourse.
The scope included:
- Adding a new 800 GPM inbound filtration bank to increase the maximum receipt rate from either Colonial Pipeline or Plantation Pipeline. This extended the maximum receipt rate and provided some redundancy to reduce the risk of supply interruption or reductions due to filtration issues.
- Construction of two new 50,000 barrel above ground storage tanks with expanded spill containment. This more than doubled the capacity of the facility.
- Addition of two new hydrant pump and filter separator sets to the existing systems, which provides the ability to issue up to 10,000 gallons per minute to the hydrant system.
The design and planning effort had to maximize the storage capacity in a limited site footprint, bounded by active taxiways, an engine run-up facility and airport service roads. The construction phasing plan allowed the existing operation to remain in service with minimal interruptions. In addition, the entire project schedule was compressed to allow the new systems to be fully operational in advance of the completion of the new International Concourse.
