Type III Hydrant System - Hill Air Force Base, UT

Pond was the lead engineer for the design and construction administration (Title II) of the new Type III Hydrant System at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The new system under construction will include two 10,000 bbl above ground storage tanks with containment dikes, 2400 gpm Type III pump house and controls, four hot refueling outlet pits for towable pantographs, one outlet for hot cargo aircraft refueling, and five hydrant outlets for transient aircraft of various air frames (KC-10, C-5, KC-135, C-17’s, 747’s). Additionally, two truck fill stands and a hydrant service check testing/check out facility with canopy is being provided adjacent to the pump house. New bulk storage transfer pumps and 8” transfer piping are being provided to improve resupply flow rates into the operating tanks.

Pond provided full discipline design services for the project which included site plan, laying out the components of the fuels yard per UFC offset requirements, including tanks, off-load and fill stands, pump house, roadways and containment areas. Airfield pavement cuts and replacement required for hydrant loop piping.

Project was programmed for $20 million; however it was recently awarded for construction at $16 million. Pond will be performing Title II construction administration services for the USACE, Omaha District.
