Dawson County Adult Jail & Law Enforcement Building - Dawsonville, GA

Pond, as part of a multi-firm team, completed the Dawson County Jail and Law Enforcement expansion. This project involved master planning the existing urban site where the Adult Jail and Courthouse are located in Dawsonville, approximately 50 miles north of metropolitan Atlanta.

The campus-style expansion to the south of the current facility included a 50,000 square foot addition with 192 medium-security beds, a medical clinic, infirmary, kitchen, laundry and central booking facility. The project also included the relocation of the Sheriff’s Operation Center to the existing jail site. The new SOC consists of 20,000 square feet of new construction to include administration functions, central control, 911 services and staff services.

The Design/Bid/Build project delivery method was preferred by the client and recommended by the team to offer this Owner the greatest level of design control during the process of procuring new bed space. The overall delivery method included the prequalification of both the General Contractor and all subcontractors.

Distinguishing Features:

  • Supports the County’s concern to develop a concentrated justice complex with expansion potential
  • Cost efficient modular steel wall panel cell construction to reduce foundation requirements
  • Video visitation to take advantage of security and operational efficiencies
  • Expansion and re-use of the existing facility to reduce site and utility costs
