Pond was selected by the City of Alpharetta to provide surveying, geotechnical exploration, construction document preparation, bid support, and construction oversight on the Big Creek Greenway Expansion. Pond conducted field investigations to assess state waters and wetlands, while hydrological studies were crucial for creek crossings, including those within FEMA-regulated floodplains. Bridge design and placement were carefully coordinated to ensure a 'no-rise' condition.
This project extended the existing Big Creek Greenway in Alpharetta, GA, approximately two miles. The new trail features multiple stream and roadway crossings at grade and through a tunnel.
The project required seamless coordination with the City of Alpharetta, Forsyth County Public Works, and the Georgia Department of Transportation. Navigating through floodplains, wetlands, power easements, and varied terrain posed significant challenges.
Ensuring construction, maintenance, and emergency access were paramount for user safety and enjoyment. This section of the trail bridged the gap between the Alpharetta and Forsyth County segments of the Big Creek Greenway, enhancing user access and extending the total distance.
