Pond was recently selected by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority for architectural and engineering services for a state-of-the-art regional transportation center in Jacksonville’s downtown LaVilla neighborhood. Pond is providing full design services to include; Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, as part of a joint venture with Michael Baker International on the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center (JRTC).

The $35-40M project envisions a multimodal approach to create a hub that will improve traffic flow by integrating key local, regional and intercity services such as bus networks, taxis, rental car services and future rail service, The master plan will also encourages active modes of transportation by widening pedestrian and bicycle paths and connecting them to the roadway system to create convenient access to the new transit facility, surrounding neighborhoods, and other community amenities.

The design team’s innovative concept also includes a raised outdoor public space which will offer visitors striking views of the Jacksonville skyline, as well as opportunities for future restaurants and a variety of community events.

Construction of the facility is anticipated to begin in early 2017 and the project is expected to be completed by 2019.
