Pond, an industry leader in architecture, engineering, planning and construction services, was selected by the Aerotropolis CIDs to provide consulting services for the completion of the AeroATL Greenway Concept Development. This initiative is the next evolution in the AeroATL Greenway Plan, a comprehensive proposal to connect the Aerotropolis communities through cross-jurisdictional trails and greenways.

The team at Pond is enthusiastic about their role in the creation of this collaborative and equitable trail network. This project is intended to spur economic development and provide opportunities for alternative modes of transportation. Each of the communities involved will have their own tailored plan that considers the assets of the existing spaces.

“This project is a transformational initiative to help reclaim space throughout South Atlanta and create a true model for other communities in how to be collaborative, inclusive and equitable in the redesign of our trail network,” said Project Manager Andrew Kohr.

This endeavor is in response to the current density of the urban and suburban environment of South Atlanta. Partners (Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance, Aerotropolis Atlanta CIDs, Atlanta, Clayton County, East Point, Forest Park, Hapeville, South Fulton and Union City) have each identified a preferred corridor to be implemented as their “model mile” of the greater AeroATL Greenway.

Pond will employ planning and design strategies that aim to enhance the environmental aesthetic and user experience of each model mile corridor. The model mile segments present ample opportunities for stormwater management and water quality treatment through green infrastructure which help enhance the existing character and quality of each community’s public spaces.

“It is really important that we’re not just building a path next to a road that’s got five feet of grass strip between it, but that we’re building a space that’s protected, comfortable and accessible,” explained Matthew Wilder, Principal-in-Charge. “We are conscious of the value that this will bring for everyone who lives in the metro area and excited to bring our passion and expertise to this work.”
