Anna Dis Sveinbjornsdottir | Interior Designer ++ If the office thrives on giving back to their community, that needs to be on display throughout the office. ++ Artwork selection is a key component to create culture and should be a thoughtful part of the planning. 7 COLORS & BRANDING ++ Use of color and style is based on the firm’s overall branding, so a key part of the design is understanding each company’s culture and values. ++ The styles that are trending now are blurring the line for work/life. Private offices could look closer to someone’s living room and breakrooms looking like a home kitchen or café. ++ Lobbies are expected to do more than just greet a guest. It now serves as an ambassador for your entire culture. 8 DIFFERENT GENERATIONS ++ Yes, we are all tired of hearing about what the millennials like, but we can’t ignore that we still have several generations working together at most work places. ++ The boomers are still running a lot of businesses, and still place value in hard work and a private office. ++ The Xers are the most under estimated generation out there. They are future leaders that value responsibility and flexible work hours to be able to create a work/life balance. ++ The millennials live on their phones and thrive on collaboration. They need flexibility and the ability to share everything. ++ The Zers are entering the workforce now. They were born into a connected world, and are hyper-aware and will take multi-tasking to the next level. ++ This overlap of generational habits means we need extremely flexible office spaces, in which all generations can collaborate and learn from one another. 9 LARGE CULTURAL HUBS ++ It’s trending to create large cultural hubs in a center space of the office that feature several different types of relaxing lounge seating, enticing amenities, and inspiring artifacts that help people feel more engaged with the organization’s purpose. ++ These areas are usually multi functional, and can be used for large corporate events, or after-hours events that encourage staff to invite outside organizations to come experience their office culture. ++ The area needs to be connected to the café and centrally located. 10 BRINGING OUTSIDE IN ++ The keys are to optimize views from every possible angle, and to put as many private areas like bathrooms and private offices in the center of the office, instead of placing them along outer walls. This also allows for more natural light. 6 8 7 9 9 10
