Ingenuity Winter 2018

12 Pond | www.pondco.com Manufacturing is an economic engine that thrives on ingenuity and planning. P ond’s industrial team supports a variety of different industrial customers with a variety of different services. From engineering to cons t r uc t i on , p l ann i ng t o l i ne replacements, warehousing to hazardous materials, Pond is helping industrial customers manufacturer, store, and ship products. Planning Planning is critical to industrial projects, especially to those that will have a significant long-term impact on the facility. You want to effectively plan for future growth and maximize your facility’s efficiency while realizing a return on the investment. Pond has recently helped a packaging manufacturer and a fresh food logistics company with planning facility additions and new buildings. We begin with programming and concept designs so that the leadership and stakeholders can visualize their strategies for increasing market shares for their services in the Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina areas. Pond is exploring ideas and priorities with the clients and evaluating their programming needs, functionality requirements and budget. Pond began with building programming to allocate the area, height, orientation, loading docks, process lines and administrative space. We then produced conceptual site plans showing where to properly fit buildings on their property along with the layout of the parking areas, truck bays, utilities and wetland buffers. Where mitigation of stormwater management was needed at one of the sites, Pond developed a solution of underground storage and permeable pavements in automotive parking. Pond is currently working on the preliminary schematics for the buildings, setback requirements, loading docks and associated parking requirements for inbound and outbound truck deliveries. Early topography surveys and geo- technical investigations are important in the early stages of projects, and crucial in generating costing estimates. Initial planning processes such as these are critical, as they a l l ow changes to be made we l l be f o r e construction starts. Hazards Assessments Industrial facilities often create, store, use and dispense hazardous materials of one kind or another. The kinds of materials can be solids, liquids or gases and range from combustible particulates to volatile organic compounds. The type of storage arrangements varies between on floor, on shelf, bin box, palletized, to high-pile storage such as rack storage. Many types of commodities stored in a building include low hazard The unique challenges of bringing Industrial Solutions to life Initial planning processes allow changes to be made well before construction starts.
