Pond Ingenuity Winter 2017 7 REWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE Our design team was selected based on our ongoing relationship with the college, and our past performance on the recently completed $13.5 million Barrow Academic Building, in Winder, GA. Pond had also provided several building and mechanical studies for the college’s main Oakwood campus. In addition to our customer service accolades, Pond structured a team to address every aspect of the complex project, being sensitive to the scheduling needs to deliver a master plan, and subsequent design of six buildings encompassing more than 320,000 square feet, and 90 acres of site development, with Material Completion scheduled in only three years (Fall 2018). In view of this, Pond proposed two full-service A/E design teams under our leadership to conquer the complex project. Pondwould subsequently design three buildings, and partnered with Stevens & Wilkinson Architects- Engineers to design the remaining three. Hughes Good O’Leary and Ryan (HGOR) Planners and Landscape Architects led the master plan effort, and Gainesville-based Rochester & Associates is providing civil engineering services for the site. In addition to full service building design for the three buildings noted, Pond is providing overall contract management, and sharing project management services. THE FUTURE OF WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT IN NORTHEAST GEORGIA Lanier Technical College began as Lanier Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1964. The past 52 years have seen tremendous growth and change on the campus. Recently, student enrollment has increased nearly 7% from2013 to 2014 tomore than 3,200 students served, all on a campus of 166,000 square feet in buildings nearly a half century old. The design team’s challenge was to envision and create a new 21st Century campus from the ground up for Northeast Georgia residents which encompasses educational, continuing education, and workforce development training opportunities in more than 50 unique programs that: – „ „ ANTICIPATES & PLANS for the future. „ „ DESIGNED to foster relationships between colleagues, faculty and staff. „ „ CUTTING EDGE, but still fits into the Northeast Georgia community. „ „ INTEGRATES student life throughout the facility. „ „ RESPECTS the history of Lanier Technical College in Hall County. „ „ SUPPORTS community partnerships. Creating a campus from the ground up brings its own challenges to be resolved, including planning for future expansion and changing curriculum, bringing consensus to faculty, analyzing utilizations and consolidations, and offering new ideas that heighten collaboration. Coordinating and addressing the needs and priorities of a threefaceted state client, and leveraging the talents of a multiple design firm partnership created to meet a demanding schedule, are additional project challenges. The programming team led numerous stakeholder meetings over the course of three months, resulting in a robust space program that addresses comprehensive workforce development and training needs for the future of Northeast Georgia residents. CAMPUS RESOLUTION Several alternatives for the campus were studied. The resulting master plan pays homage to a traditional campus quad unifying the campus core, provides ampus
