Q&A LORRAINE GREEN,PE N ew CEO, Lorraine Green, has been instrumental in shaping Pond’s growth as one of the firm’s top leaders since she began her career at Pond at the helm of the burgeoning Energy program, which has now grown into an award-winning, multi-discipline practice serving clients across the world. Prior to joining Pond, Green had already served as the President and Chief Engineer of the company she founded, Green Environmental, Inc. Her 18-year success in this arena built a diverse network across the industry, introducing her to former Pond CEO Tony Parker, who would go on to handpick her as his successor upon his retirement. Today, Green is poised to lead the company’s 550+ person workforce into the future. She sat down with our team to discuss her priorities, client- centered objectives and vision for the firm, and shared how she got here. What is your short-term and long-term vision for the company? My short-term vision centers around culture-driven initiatives that reinforce the core principles and values we were founded on – what makes Pond the company it is. Growth is what we work toward, but it comes with its own set of challenges and I want to ensure that as we grow larger, we strive to maintain a healthy work-life balance for our people. We want to be a people- oriented, family-friendly and inclusive firm where our people can bring their authentic selves to work and are given opportunities to work on engaging, complex projects that challenge and reward them. My l ong- t e rm goa l s a re two-dimensional. We have lofty growth goals and I want to continue to propel those forward. We were named the number one firm in Atlanta this year, and I want us to eventually become number one in the Southeast. It is an ambitious objective, but I truly believe that if a firm is not growing, it’s not growing its people. We want our employees to have rich careers here—ones where they don’t have the same job for the next thirty years—and opportunities that arise with company growth. The other aspect of my long-term mission is ensuring our firm upholds its reputation for quality. I want us to be known for how we approach our projects. Our problem-solving, our unique solutions, our skills we bring to the table. I want that to precede us so when clients have a complex challenge, they think of Pond first. with the new CEO 12 Pond | www.pondco.com
