Pond Ingenuity Fall 2018

Pond Ingenuity Fall 2018 23 Pond partnered with Lockheed Martin on a new 6,500 square-foot C-130J and LM-100J training facility at the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Marietta Plant. The LM-100J is able to perform as a civil, multi-purpose air freighter capable of rapid and efficient transport of cargo. This was Pond’s second design-build simulator facility project for Lockheed Martin. This new, state of the art facility is in close proximity to the other structures within new enclosure structures on the inside of a larger aircraft assembly building. Pond worked closely with Lockheed Martin to develop the facility design based on the needs of the new program. As the design progressed past the halfway mark, Pond solicited bids for the work and developed a maximum cost for the approved scope of work. Once approved by Lockheed Martin, the project was released to move forward. The new full motion simulator training facility is used for training for the C-130J and LM-100J. The project included the development of technical space for the simulator, including the 40 feet x 40 feet x 25 feet tall simulator bay, supporting mechanical systems, fire protection, electrical services and security provisions. This project also included space for customer interaction, the administrative support, briefing and planning functions all under one roof with restrooms and a break room. Pond also worked very closely with the simulator vendor (CAE) to facilitate the new unit’s requirements including the requirement for a “super flat” concrete reaction pad that can withstand the vibration of the full motion simulator. The building was designed and constructed to minimize sound pollution from the surrounding operations using acoustical sealant, noise reducing GWB, and sound batt insulation. The new full motion simulator is used for training for the C-130J and LM-100J.
