Highlighter Fall 2015

Ingenuity HISTORY Lanier Technical College (LTC) is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and began as Lanier Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1964. The first classes began in the fall of 1966 with the current permanent Oakwood campus opening in January 1967. The past forty eight years have seen tremendous growth and change on the campus and at the college as well as amazing advances in technology not only in the programs of instruction but within the colleges’ daily functions and mission. NEW CAMPUS The 2015 Georgia Legislative session concluded with a $10,000,000 appropriation for the land acquisition and design of a completely new replacement campus for Lanier Technical College. After a careful vetting process, an 85 acre site for the campus was purchased in Gainesville, GA. It is anticipated that the project construction will take place over a three year period and will include multiple buildings covering approximately 325,000 GSF, associated surface parking, and related site amenities, all with an approximate construction value between $75M and $80M. Pond (prime design professional), in association with Stevens & Wilkinson Architects and Engineers was selected to provide programming, master planning, and design services for the new campus. THE DESIGN MISSION The Campus Vision is to provide a 21st Century Campus for NE Georgia residents which encompasses educational, continuing education, and workforce development training opportunities over numerous programs. Key features of the new campus will not only be industry leading technology today, but also the flexibility to expand, re-tool and adapt to what will undoubtedly be incredible advances in sciences, industries and systems well into the future. During initial programming sessions, the following over-arching objectives were identified: „ A 21st Century Campus that anticipates and plans for the future. „ Lanier Tech to provide great customer service and value. „ Foster relationships with colleagues, faculty and staff. Maintain relationships. „ Cutting Edge, but fit into the Northeast Georgia community. „ Integrate Student Life throughout the facility. „ Respect history of Lanier Technical College in Hall County. „ Support Community Partnerships.
