Widening of US-19 / SR 3 - Sumter-Schley County, GA

Pond provided design services for widening, reconstruction and relocation of US-19 from Angelica Creek in Sumter County to State Route 271 in Schley County, for a total of 6.4 miles including two major intersections at State Routes and six County road intersections. This was a Governor’s Road Improvement Program (GRIP) corridor project that served as a catalyst for development of the region, connecting Atlanta with the more sparsely developed areas of the south to Florida.

The highway was transformed into a divided multilane highway with a depressed grass median to improve existing conditions. The proposed roadway was relocated to avoid an existing historical stretch of highway. Design included construction plan sheets, cross sections, right-of-way plans and detailed utility coordination needed for introduction of more than 6,000’ of storm sewer.
