Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center Plaza - Atlanta, GA

When the U.S. General Services Administration sought LEED Existing Building Certification for the Federal Center, they hired Pond & Company to redevelop their landscape plan.

Pond established a plan to earn site credits for LEED EB with a vibrant landscape design dominated by native and site appropriate plant species and rivers of recycled tumbled glass, all of which reduce irrigation needs.

The designers created sinuous bands of plant material and recycled glass in contrast to the severe angles of the existing plaza. These dramatic, bright green and blue swaths of glass, along with the adjacent flows of ornamental grasses, shrubs, perennials and annuals provide visual excitement and architectural interest to the once stark plaza. The glass beds were inspired by the glass artwork in the windows above the main entrance to the Federal Center.
