Readiness Training Center - Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, GA

This $7.9M project for the Georgia Army National Guard (GAARNG) included site master planning and full architectural and engineering design services for the construction of a Readiness Training Center (RTC), and a Training Maintenance Bay (total bldgs. 31,181 sf). The 5.4-acre site includes two access drives with security control points for traffic to/from airside operations, parking spaces for 107 personal owned vehicles and 1.2 acres of paved area for military equipment parking. The RTC now houses all administrative, logistical and operational functions for the five detachments assigned to the facility, as well as educational facilities (including classrooms, library, and a distance learning center). The RTC features a 5,000 sf multi?purpose training/assembly hall, locker rooms (T?50), an arms vault, nuclear biological chemical equipment storage room, five unit storage areas with attached covered hardstand for staging, and a physical fitness center with Men’s & Women’s Showers/Locker rooms that allows for 24/7 access.

The project design enabled the facility to accommodate future expansion (30,000 sf) with minimal disruption to the existing facility operational readiness. The project was registered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and achieved LEED® Silver certification under LEEDv3.0.

Pond provided services related to architecture, civil, landscape architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, interior design, LEED®AP and fundamental commissioning through this design?build project with GAARNG.
