Pinnacle Park - Norcross, GA

Pond provided design-build services for Pinnacle Park in Norcross, GA. The new park is situated next to an office complex and around a small lake that served as storm water retention. The City of Norcross acquired the site as part of their vision to bring more access to parks and green space throughout the community.

Pond’s design-build team created numerous spaces for visitors to enjoy, including a playground, walking trails with seating and shelter areas, and a picnic pavilion, interpretive signage, and security lighting and cameras throughout the park. Upgrades and improvements include renovation of two bridges, demolition of an existing two-story office building, the design and construction of a new 40-foot octagonal grand pavilion with restroom and storage room, and several added and designated ADA parking spaces.

The $2M project, funded through SPLOST, encompasses twelve acres of green space as well as a connection to the Beaver Ruin Creek Greenway and the Gwinnett County-wide Trail System.

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) recognized Norcross as a Platinum Green Community. The City demonstrated their commitment to sustainable practices with a unique method of clearing the overgrown vegetation prior to construction. Rather than using chemicals or other invasive processes, forty-one goats were contracted to perform the project’s initial site clearing.

Immediately adjacent to Beaver Ruin Creek, floodplain and state water buffers encompass nearly the entire park. Pond’s environmental teamed assisted with obtaining Environmental Protection Division (EPD) buffer variances and other environmental regulations in the design and implementation of the park. Landscape work included the removal of invasive species and restoration of the shoreline with native landscape materials as specified by Pond Landscape Architects.
