Nease High School - Ponte Vedra, FL
Pond was selected to provide Architectural Services for the design of facilities, classroom additions and site improvements at Nease High School in northeast St. Johns County, Florida.
The project required a new visionary Master Plan that brings a cohesive 21st century design solution to the campus. This Master Plan is designed to be implemented in several phases and proposes a new campus front door, inclusive of a 65,000 sf classroom building to include a media center, administrative offices, classrooms, café and student services center. The project will also improve entrance ways, parking, as well as traffic flow to and from the school. A new outdoor ‘student street’ is proposed to provide much needed consolidated and easy to monitor gathering and collaboration space. In addition to new construction, extensive renovations to several existing ‘octagonal classroom pods’ are planned which will provide more usable and flexible instructional spaces throughout the campus.
An expansion and renovation to the existing cafeteria was scheduled in the first phase. The project involves the renovation of an existing 12,000 sf Cafeteria and Dining building and a new Dining Room Addition of 3,872 sf. The addition and renovation expanded the seating capacity from 640 students to 864 students. The existing kitchen was completely renovated utilizing some of the existing food service equipment and also employing new food service equipment and new walk-in freezer/coolers.
The kitchen renovation required extensive concrete slab sawcutting and removal to accommodate the relocation and new plumbing and electrical required for the new equipment. The kitchen was finished with a new epoxy resinous floor and base and new fiberglass reinforced plastic wall panels. Serving line capacity was expanded from three to six, and an additional remote serving area was added within the dining area.
