Mission Planning Center - MacDill Air Force Base, FL
Pond provided full architecture and engineering design services for this high profile facility named the Davis Conference Center. The facility provides state-of-the-art conference, auditorium and meeting facilities to accommodate strategic planning activities for senior military leadership. Designed as a landmark structure along Bayshore Drive, the facility includes distinguished visitor office suites for use by upper echelon military personnel, a food warming kitchen and pre-function/dining area, an open exterior veranda, an auditorium with balcony and state-of-the-art audio-visual systems.
The character of this facility is designed to reflect the unique local vernacular of southwest Florida architecture, while complementing the historic General Officer housing and other nearby buildings on the base. In addition to incorporating traditional design elements such as stucco exteriors with tile roofs and the use of a trellis for shading, the building includes an outdoor veranda allowing the opportunity to take advantage of outstanding views of Tampa Bay.
This facility was an Air Force Honor award winner, one of only two which are awarded nationally.
