Lanier Technical College, Allied Health Building, Nursing Program - Oakwood, GA
The main campus of Lanier Technical College reached capacity and required growth to provide adequate support for its students in the medical sciences fields. In the summer of 2014, Lanier Technical College contracted with Pond to develop the conceptual design for their proposed Allied Health Building for this campus, which will serve as the institution’s new “flagship” facility.
The new 63,000 sf, three-story Allied Health Building is a state-of-the-art training facility providing workforce development health sciences programs supporting healthcare institutions in North Georgia. Essential programs include dental sciences, nursing, medical assistant, paramedical training, radiologic technician, and others. The facility is designed to simulate a hospital / healthcare environment and offers hands-on simulation suites emulating critical program components. Labs are designed for adaptability of program and stacked in the design to afford economies in ventilation response. They are also paired to maximize efficiency through paired storage.
Classrooms are also designed to accommodate changing curriculum, which is provided through robust inclusion of technology and flexible furnishings. The dental suite offers real-life training to the public. Attention is paid to providing transparency to showcase research and collaboration zones throughout the facility.
“The design team listened to our request to create a sophisticated yet cost conscious campus that reflects our desire to offer our students an educational/collegiate experience comparable to that found in nearby four-year institutions, and by doing so, will instill community pride. They worked (and continue to work) with all our stakeholders in a transparent and inclusive manner from day one, careful to listen to our concerns, and guide our decisions through experience.”
