City of East Point Transit Oriented Development Master Plan - East Point, GA
Pond partnered with the City of East Point, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to aggressively plan for areas around two of their transit stations: East Point Station, located in historic downtown, and the portion of the Fort McPherson station that lies within the City of East Point.
The transit oriented development (TOD) plan provided the City of East Point, East Point Business and Industrial Development Authority (BIDA), and other partners with a strategy to proactively plan for the future. With intensive community involvement, design charrettes, and advising from a national retail expert, the project armed the city with a feasible action plan and inspiring graphics that sent signals to the market about the city potential. The work incorporated lifelong community principles with survey results aimed at understanding current and future needs for changing household demographics.
Pond prepared detailed planning for seven focus areas. This helped facilitate community comments and concerns throughout the planning process. Each of the focus areas presented opportunities for economic development, connectivity, and urban design enhancements. The areas also utilized a place making approach by identifying community elements at the appropriate scale and location to support market findings and mixed income TOD principles (walkable, mixed use areas approximately within half mile of a transit station).
