Candler Road/Flat Shoals Parkway Livable Centers Initiative - DeKalb County, GA

Pond led a team of consultants to recommend alternative transportation, urban design, and public investment solutions for this resource-rich, but overlooked, south DeKalb County study area.

Pond’s transportation planners creatively incorporated long-range projects with practical, phased solutions for transit and congested local roads. Like many LCIs, the area needed a context-specific approach to address the tension between heavy through-traffic corridors and the desire for more livable local street conditions. Pond | Ecos worked closely with colleagues in the County and regional transportation agencies to meet that challenge.

Additionally, Pond generated market data so that the development plan resonated with the community and investors alike. The success of this LCI depended on highly galvanizing community ownership over the study and its recommendations. The plan integrated land use and transportation decision making into one comprehensive document, with a stand-alone executive summary that economic development entities can use as a marketing piece.
