Cathodic Protection of Systems - Various Military CONUS Locations

Pond provided cathodic protection surveys, training, upgrades and repairs at Petroleum Oil & Lubricant facilities nationwide under the new Defense Energy Support Center (DESC) centrally managed Cathodic Protection Program. The work required an extensive knowledge of the various Air Force, Army Corps and Navy guidelines for corrosion protection. A primary guide for the work is the Unified Facilities Code 3-570-06; “Operations and Maintenance: Cathodic Protection”.

Pond performed the following:

  • Evaluation of unprotected fuel storage systems to determine if cathodic protection is required to maintain compliance with state, federal or Department of Defense (DoD) codes or regulations or would otherwise benefit from the application of cathodic protection.
  • Evaluation of the performance of existing cathodic protection systems on fuel storage systems including impressed current and galvanic type systems on underground tanks, aboveground tanks and hydrant pipeline systems.
  • Troubleshooting of inactive or damaged systems to determine the required corrective actions to provide effective corrosion control.
  • Installation of new cathodic protection systems or implementation of corrective action to damaged systems.
  • Training of on-site personnel on the proper preventative maintenance tasks required under Unified Facilities Code 3-570-06. Many of the keys tasks are also required by local, state and federal regulations.

The scope of work includes inspections at over 85 Air Force, Navy, Army and Air National Guard bases across the country. Several Air Force bases where work is being performed include:

  • Tinker AFB, OK
  • Robins AFB, GA
  • Edwards AFB, CA
  • Westover AFB, MA
  • Whiteman AFB, MO
  • Little Rock AFB, AR
  • NAS Pensacola, FL
  • NAS Oceana, VA
  • Kings Bay Submarine Base, GA
  • Naval Submarine Base, New London, CT
  • Fort Rucker, AL
  • Fort Bliss, TX
  • Pease Air National Guard, NH
  • Camp Santiago National Guard, PR
