C-5 and C-130 Simulator Facilities - Lockheed Martin, Marietta, GA
Pond has been involved with Lockheed Martin on multiple simulator facilities at the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Marietta Plant for two variants of C-130 and a C-5 aircraft. These projects are currently in either the conceptual design phase, design phase, construction or completed. All of the new simulator facilities are being placed within new enclosure structures on the inside of a larger aircraft assembly building.
Pond designed, supported construction of and relocated a C-130J Engineering (i.e. stationary) Simulator. The project included the technical space for the simulator, including the simulator bay, mechanical, fire protection and electrical services. The project also included a separate space for the administrative support, briefing and planning functions. Pond was also responsible for relocation of the simulator itself from its original location approximately three miles away.
Pond designed and will be supporting construction of a new variant of C-130J Training (i.e. full motion) Simulator. The project includes the technical space for the simulator, including the simulator bay, mechanical, fire protection and electrical services. This project also includes space for customer interaction, the administrative support, briefing and planning functions all under one roof. Pond worked very closely with the simulator vendor (CAE) to facilitate the new unit’s requirements.
Pond is currently working with Lockheed on the planning phase for the relocation of their C-5 Engineering Simulator. This planning includes multiple evaluations of locations for the facility and its support spaces. The evaluation includes looking into existing space that will require significant structural modifications and assesses availability of needed utilities. Pond will be supporting Lockheed for both design and construction of this new facility. Since these simulators are located within an Air Force owner facility, all applicable UFCs and security criteria are being implemented.
