Burke County Airport (BXG), Runway 8/26 Extension - Waynesboro, GA

Pond supported the EA reevaluation and provided environmental services for the extension of Runway 8/26 at the Burke County Airport. Pond completed waters delineations, archaeology and history surveys, as well as environmental permitting through USACE and GAEPD. The project is currently under construction, and Pond is providing construction administration, Resident Project Representative and observation services.

With a runway extension and partial parallel taxiway under construction, the Burke County Board of Commissioners requested that Pond prepare plans and specifications to construct the remainder of the full length parallel taxiway; a length of 3,400 ft. Additional funding had been allocated by GDOT and a demanding six week design schedule was set. The project scope included extending the partial parallel taxiway 3,400 ft, associated edge lighting, signage, markings and improving the site drainage. The challenge was to incorporate the under-construction partial parallel taxiway with the least amount of sacrificial construction as possible to reduce rework and drive down construction cost. Pond met both the design schedule and found the critical path to the success of both projects.
