Wieuca Road Roundabout - Buckhead Community Improvement District (CID), GA
Pond was selected to analyze the intersection of Wieuca Road and Phipps Boulevard, which is a heavily congested intersection located in Buckhead, Atlanta. It was determined that the best solution for the traveling public and pedestrian traffic was to construct a roundabout. The roundabout needs to link the residential and commercial communities at the human scale, and it was necessary to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing design. Challenges on this project included obtaining public consensus, fitting the roundabout within the constraints of the area, providing facilities for pedestrians and bicycle traffic, setting the horizontal and vertical alignments to minimize impacts to the adjacent properties, minimize impacts to the existing utilities, and maintain traffic during construction.
