Aviation Boulevard - Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, GA

Pond prepared a roadway design for the main entrance to the new Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The design included reconstruction of 0.8 miles of 4-lane roadway, with raised medians and urban shoulders as well as parallel collector distributor roads. The design scope included vertical and horizontal layouts, traffic studies, driveway profiles, drainage design, maintenance of traffic, erosion control, and right of way plans.

The phasing requirements were extremely complex to maintain existing utility service to adjacent facilities and traffic flow to the new International Terminal. This project required extensive coordination between numerous stakeholders including FAA, GDOT, Delta Airlines, Clayton County, FHWA and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The roadway was designed to not only accommodate the future International Terminal traffic, but to also serve the many airport facilities currently accessing the existing roadway.

Pond provided CEI services on this award winning project.

Pond’s work on the project was distinguished as the top project completed in Georgia in 2013 by American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and presented the State Award and the People’s Choice Award for the design of the improvements to Aviation Boulevard at the new Maynard H. Jackson, Jr. International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
