Cumming Lateral Pipeline - Forsyth County, GA

Pond provided engineering design, survey, and land acquisition efforts to complete this lateral pipeline. This project consisted of approximately 57,000 LF (10.8 miles) of 16” steel transmission pipeline with a planned MAOP of 720 psig. The pipeline begins at the existing AGLC Cumming Tap Station. This project routed the transmission pipeline directly through the center of the city, requiring significant coordination with city and county officials, DOT and multiple high-profile property owners. This project experienced multiple city-driven reroutes along with large tracts under current development as well as new roadway construction in parallel to the pipe route. Additional complexity was added to the project when multiple contractors were selected to construct separate portions of the project.

KEY ELEMENTS:

  • This project involved extensive challenges with alignment due to the high density of the city through which the pipeline was routed. Numerous HDDs were designed, including compound HDDs, to avoid roadway, river and wetlands crossings and in some cases to satisfy landowners. Extensive AC Mitigation modeling was required due to the presence of AC corridors.
  • This project is part of the STRIDE i-SRP program, for which Pond was the selected engineering consultant. This project in conjunction with the rest of the program demonstrates Pond’s ability to successfully design and manage a multitude of detailed gas pipeline projects simultaneously, while being responsive to our client’s changing needs. Pond is committed to the success of our clients’ projects.
