DH Stanton Park - Atlanta Beltline Park, GA

Pond has been involved in master planning and designing parks for the Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. for over six years. DH Stanton Park is located in Southeast Atlanta adjacent to the BeltLine Corridor and comprises approximately eight acres abutted on two sides by single-family residences. The park’s program included a league-ready baseball field with a concession stand/scorekeepers facility, a splashpad, a natural playground area, a tot lot, seating, restrooms and a gazebo. This multi-use park was also required to use sustainable develop practices, a native or naturalized landscape palette, organic maintenance techniques and to handle all stormwater on-site. Large stones that were excavated on site were re-used as natural climbing and sitting elements. The Pond team designed a structure that uses photovoltaic panels as a ‘roof’ and sells power to the grid during the day and allows the park to buy back less expensive power at night. Energy saving LED light fixtures were incorporated into the design as were the use of many recycled product construction materials. DH Stanton Park was completed in the spring of 2011 and is the City of Atlanta’s first truly sustainable park.
