ATCT Feasibility Study and Design - John C. Tune Aiport (JWN) | Nashville, TN

Pond provided a formal Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) Siting Study, as well as design services for the new ATCT, supporting road, utility options, and environmental services at John Tune Airport in Nashville, TN. The new ATCT facility includes an eight-sided, approx. 500 SF Control Cab sitting on top of a 63′ tall, 6-level, 28′ square occupied shaft tower. Pond’s work includes the development and processing of the new Tower Siting Report in accordance with safety risk management assessments in order to meet all FAA siting criteria components. Pond’s environmental team conducted the Environmental Due Diligence Audits (EDDAs) / Phase I Environmental Site Assessments

Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) for each of the three (3) location alternatives as well as developing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment for the Airport & FAA’s preferred location. Pond was also responsible for the design of the new ATCT including new airport access point, site security measures, parking, and utility yard supporting the new tower. The tower itself includes special foundation requirements, mechanical space, electrical space, communications space, and administrative space for management and training functions plus a break area located on the level directly under the controllers. The tower is under construction and planned for a July 2021 operational start date. Pond coordinated communication with the FAA to ensure a smooth transition to the operation of the new tower at John C. Tune Airport (JWN) in Nashville, TN.
