Albany Regional Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan - Albany, GA

Pond identified ways to improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity within the urbanized areas of Dougherty County and southern Lee County for the DARTS (Dougherty Area Regional Transportation Study) MPO. The study analyzed existing needs, bicycle and pedestrian suitability along area roadways, and locations with safety problems.

The study focused on improving bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure near locations including:

  • Schools, parks, libraries, and other community facilities
  • Activity centers, major employers, and other significant destinations
  • Transit stops
  • Multi-family residential land uses
  • Areas with significant concentrations of poverty

Pond prepared a list of recommended bicycle projects based upon the analysis of previous projects, public input, and of the locations described. Pond further prioritized the list by selecting project implementation based on 1) limited funds budgeted for the MPO, 2) available resources, and 3) ability to meet community needs.
