7th Special Forces Group Master Planning - Eglin Air Force Base, FL

Forces Group (SFG) from Ft. Bragg, North Carolina to Eglin AFB, Florida.

The process involved a detailed study and interviews of 7th SFG members at Ft. Bragg followed by two on-site design charrettes, to analyze multiple sites at Eglin AFB and adjacent Duke Field. In addition to providing studies, narrative and graphic solutions for the project sites and buildings, the Pond team provided parametric cost estimates incorporating changes in bidding climate as a result of construction price increases caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  The effort also included numerous briefings to high-level decision makers with the Army and Air Force.

Following development of the Master Plan, Pond conducted building specific planning charrettes and prepared customer concept document (CCD) designs for 20 facilities, which comprised the complex, utilizing 5 teams.  Project types ranged from administration facilities, headquarters and operational facilities to indoor firing ranges and training facilities, including Battalion HQ/Co Ops (120,000 sf), Group HQ (68,000 sf), Group Support Battalion (75,000 sf) and the Maritime Ops Facility (17,000 sf).

Under subcontract to HCDI, Pond subsequently provided 100% electrical, mechanical and structural engineering design services for multiple new facilities associated with this BRAC Relocation.

The facilities Pond provided 100% Engineering Support Design Services were:

  • Four Battalion Headquarters/Company Operations buildings
  • Three Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facilities (TEMF)
  • Three oil storage buildings (POL)
  • Three Organizational Equipment Buildings (OEB)
  • One Maritime Operations facility
  • One Classified Operations/Deployment Storage facility

Pond also provided engineering support during construction on these facilities, including RFI and shop drawing support, as well as construction observation visits.
