164th Airlift Wing Relocation Program - Memphis International Airport, TN
Pond provided full engineering and architectural services for the $33M 164th Airlift Wing of the Tennessee Air National Guard Relocation Program at Memphis International Airport to accommodate their conversion from the C-141 to C-5 aircraft. Projects included:
Apron and Hydrant Fuel System
This projected included 160,000 CY of 14” PCC with underdrain system and two taxiway connectors, as well as asphalt shoulders. This project also included 4,500 linear feet of 10-inch stainless steel fuel pipe, six hydrant fueling pits, apron and airfield lighting, airfield signage, sitework and communications.
Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants Facility
This fuel complex includes two 6,500 BBL aboveground jet fuel storage tanks, 1,800 GPM pump-house, two fuel truck loading and two off-loading stands. It also includes a fuel service station with regular and diesel fuel, liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen storage shelter, and canopies. Also included are associated civil, site, heavy duty pavements, concrete containment areas for stormwater and spill management, and an oil-water separator.
Ground Run-Up Enclosure (GRE)
This project includes the design of a three-sided acoustical enclosure for testing of the C-5 aircraft. This GRE will be the largest in the U.S. Air Force and will include lighting for night operations as well as a control room for performance data collection.
Site Civil
Included in the civil engineering were a C-5 rated 16,000 sly concrete parking apron, heavy duty asphalt pavements, concrete spill containment for JP-8 tanks and concrete containment areas for loading/offloading, R-11 parking and government vehicle service station. This project is Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection compliant.
