Suwanee to Friendship Road Pipeline - Gwinnett County, GA

The project included complete project management and design for 12 miles of 12” steel natural gas transmission pipeline (MAOP 720 psi) through the suburbs of the greater Atlanta area for Atlanta Gas Light. The scope included all land survey, land acquisition, design, construction monitoring and as-built survey documentation on the pipeline as well as similar services for a new regulator station on a new 1-acre site associated with this project. Over 50% of the ROW paralleled high voltage overhead power transmission which required modeling and design for AC mitigation for most of the pipeline route.

This project experienced multiple challenges including an extremely crowded HVPL corridor to be paralleled, multiple client and property owner driven reroutes, large amounts of rock and wetlands in addition to multiple road and utility crossings. There are four (4) compound HDDs designed for this project as well as a new tap station with pig launchers/receivers, remote controlled valves and other appurtenances.

KEY ELEMENTS:

  • This project involved extensive land coordination with the pipeline routed through challenging areas parallel to powerline right of way including neighborhoods, community center areas and businesses. Numerous HDDs were designed, including compound HDDs, to avoid both roadway, river and wetlands crossings. Extensive AC Mitigation modeling was required due to the presence of AC corridors.
  • This project is part of the STRIDE i-SRP program, for which Pond was the selected engineering consultant. This project in conjunction with the rest of the program demonstrates Pond’s ability to successfully design and manage a multitude of detailed gas pipeline projects simultaneously, while being responsive to our client’s changing needs. Pond is committed to the success of our clients’ projects.
