ATLANTA – (04.05.2021) – Pond Senior Planner Lauren Blaszyk, AICP, was selected to serve DeKalb County as a member of its planning commission, the County’s recommending body on all zoning and planning matters, zoning text and map amendments, and related activities.
The DeKalb County Planning Commission is one of five different boards and councils that play a critical role in determining zoning and planning decisions for the County’s 750,000+ residents. This board is last to review applications for rezoning property, land use map amendments, major zoning modifications and special land use permits before relaying recommendations to the Board of Commissioners.
A skilled planner with over 17 years of experience, Blaszyk was appointed by District 1 DeKalb Commissioner, Robert Patrick, to join eight other appointees that comprise the Commission. During her term, her work will include but not be limited to overseeing zoning cases and special land use permitting requests in public hearings, working with public and private agencies as they implement community planning objectives, and assisting and advising the Board of Commissioners and related bodies.
Blaszyk’s ability to connect with her clients and the public has allowed her to find common ground amongst different perspectives. She has been involved in numerous award-winning planning initiatives and comprehensive plans, including the Gwinnett 2040 Unified Plan. Her unique insight in helping municipal and county agencies plan for sustainable land use and development, zoning, transportation, and economic development will inform her decision-making in this role.
“I am grateful for this privilege to serve the DeKalb community in this capacity. The County is a vibrant place with plenty of upcoming opportunities and I am excited to help guide its growth and development,” said Lauren Blaszyk, AICP.
