Pond recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony at the Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station. This ceremony kicked off the transition to the C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft, which is replacing the C-130 Hercules currently at the base.

Several projects under three major contracts will provide shelter, maintenance and fueling capabilities for the fleet of C-17s that will be housed at this location. Flexible and high-performing, the larger C-17 Globemaster III will increase the ability of the 911th AW to succeed in their mission, as well as bring a new mission to the base.

In attendance were Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania Michael Stack, Col. Jeff Van Dootingh, commander of the 911th Airlift Wing, and several other local and state dignitaries.

“I just can’t say enough about the support that we get in this community,” said Col. Jeffrey A. Van Dootingh. “This Wing is here to stay…and will be here for the foreseeable future with an entirely new expanded mission.”
