South Houston and Virginia Beach employees complete NACE Cathodic Protection Level 1 Certification

Pond is pleased to announce that Forrest Patterson, Russen Garivay and Joey Hsiung have successfully completed the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Cathodic Protection Level 1 certification.

CP1 certification is the first in a seven-course Cathodic Protection Program available through NACE—the most prestigious national certifying organization for engineers in the U.S. and across the world—and with the certification, all three are now, officially, NACE Cathodic Protection Technicians.

Garivay and Patterson, both crew leaders in Pond’s Texas-based South Houston office, along with Hsiung, a civil engineer at Pond’s Virginia Beach, Va., office, all attended the extensive, five-day course that covers the fundamentals of cathodic corrosion inspection and protection for petroleum pipelines, natural gas lines, water supply and sewage lines, as well as fire protection.

“CP certifications through NACE can be rather difficult to achieve, it all depends on the individual’s experience, study habits and test taking abilities,” said Allen Lewis, operations manager for Pond’s South Houston office. “I can tell you from experience that the students are living and breathing NACE, for the entire week of the course. NACE jams a full semester worth of material into four days, and you test on the fifth day.”

The NACE CP1 certification provides an opportunity for advancement for each employee within Pond, but it also provides all three a wider vista to sell Pond’s services to existing and new clients.

Earning the NACE CP1 certification shows a commitment to expanding Pond’s services to better serve its clients.

“It is an accomplishment that Forrest, Russen and Joey should be very proud of, and we are proud of them. The certifications show tremendous personal achievement and will be a very useful tool that they will have for the remainder of their careers within the industry.”

NACE is recognized as an Authorized Provider of Continuing Education Units by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).
